Another Quiet Day

So it was another fab day in Italy - very hot - but we're not complaining...

Miss H did not wake up this morning until 11... I think it was Venice finally catching up on us all.

So we lounged around for the morning before having lunch...

In the afternoon the girls went into Caorle to visit the waterlark - Aquafollie... Cue big rides and great fun. What a blast! Had great fun, what a laugh.

So I did the shopping and spent the afternoon chilling out and catching up with some reading on my Kindle. Whist that was great I got bitten repeatedly... It's the first time this has happened whilst we have sat on the decking butZ nevermind...

So after showers it was out for a - guess what, you guessed it, a pizza.

So it's our last full day tomorrow and we are going to make the most of it. We are due to meet Ali for lunch and have lots of packing to do before we leave on Saturday. It's straight to the beach in the morning.

The girls left around 2 and returned around7. They were really tired but had really enjoyed the waterpark.

Siesta Time

So after a very long day yesterday today was only going to be a quiet day.

Everyone was feeling a little weary from the day before.

So the morning was about going to the pool, followed by lunch at home.

After Siesta time the girls took out a pedalo again - I have photographic proof but the photos on my phone are not great. You will need to wait until next time and I will take my camera with me.

After showers for everyone it was a walk along the beach to the restaurant. It's coming up to a quarter to ten and it is extremely hot and humid.

Water Water Everywhere

So a slight change of plan saw us head off to Venice a day ahead of schedule. Not entirely sure why - that's just the way we roll...

The package was a coach transfer to Punto Sabbione (or something like that) and a return ferry to Venice. We were first to the bus stop at 8.30 but nearly last onto the coach. But let's not open that can of worms again...

Seem to have a problem at the moment with posting photos on the blog, so apologies if there is limited or no photos.

We must have walked further around Venice today than on our previous 2 visits but much to Miss B's disappointment missed finding Mango, H&M and Hollister. It wasn't for lack of trying though...

We had promised the girls a Maccy D but again didn't manage to locate it so we found somewhere else to eat. It's only been open a couple of weeks, so we tried out the Hard Rock Cafe. It made a great change from pizzas and pasta, and it was good to get out of the sun - mid 40s again for anyone who is interested...

Plus they had WiFi so we could catch up on news etc, so that kept Miss B happy.

After lunch we wandered around doing the tourist things whilst browsing the shops and side streets. Can't believe how much we have drunk today... And before you jump to conclusions I mean soft drinks...

We beat our current record for a round of drinks in Venice - €24 for four cans of soft drink... Ahh well they were ice cold and desperately needed. We had finished the drinks we took with us and needed the sit down in the shade. Great spot to people watch.

Then we took the ferry back to pick up our coach. It was the last to arrive and we were all glad to see it. The journey back to the camp site was about an hour and I am typing this now we have returned on our balcony with an ice cold bottle of Birra Moretti - I think I've definitely earned this today.

I would love to know how far we have walked today, probably not as far as we think, but certainly more than we intended. I had toyed with bringing our GPS device with us - it would have been really interesting to know...

So as we ponder where to go and eat tonight that about wraps up Tuesday...

Our Home

Carefree Sunday

Sunday saw a very lazy start to the day for two members of the party. Mrs J and the girls then went off to play crazy golf leaving Mr J some quiet time to catch up on some reading. In case you were so wondering Mrs J won...

Still planning on how best to get to Venice and have finally decided to go with an organised tour. There are a couple of reasons for this; firstly all the organisation is done for you, secondly you get picked up and delivered back to the camp site and thirdly, you are guaranteed a seat - hopefully.

We still haven't decided which day but if I was a betting man, and there are still spaces, I would guess Wednesday.

Siesta time is nearly over so we will need to decide if it is pool or beach or both... Won't bother describing the weather - you've guessed already - it's very hot.... And sunny...

The girls, or rather Miss B and Miss H have decided on the pool, so have decided to sit this one out, take some more tablets and start another book. The decking on our home is completely covered so is virtually in the shade all day so is great for sitting outside and watching the world go by.

Miss B managed to leave her glasses where they were trodden on so one of the arms has come off. Sellotape has come to our temporary rescue but not sure if we will need to go in venture of an optician tomorrow.

Market Day

Another quietish day - temperature was in the high 40s and the living was easy...

We were up reasonably early to catch the bus to Caorle for the weekly market. We had seen the market when we arrived last week and thought we needed to check it out.

So a week has gone already... It was changeover day today so the camp site was really busy with plenty of comings and goings. One of the by-products of this is that they close the road to the camp site to the buses which meant we missed the bus we were aiming for. It's no consolation being able to see the bus and then watch it drive off in the distance...

That meant a further half hour wait and the inevitable bun fight that ensued. At least there is consistency in the world. In Italy, like the good old US of A there is no letter Q in the alphabet. I'm loathe to name nationalities here - aside from the British - but if they could put beach towels on bus seats...

There really is no shame in a party of 8 arriving late and then standing in front of you when the bus arrives, getting on and then sitting there with that smug look. Not impressed or happy.

We had lunch at home and enjoyed a bit of a siesta before heading for the pools until closing time at 6.

Next up was showers and getting dressed up to walk down to the beach to a restaurant we hadn't tried so far. The view out to the sea is fantastic and there is a bit of a breeze which helps. The sun has set and it is starting to get dark.

Following yesterday's post I didn't get round to checking out on Google for Romeo and Juliet. It may have to wait until I return home and add it to my projects...

Picture of Verona Arena

Romeo Oh Romeo

So the blog post should give you the answer... But if you need help we went to Verona. It was Ali's day off and offered to drive us all to Verona. It's about a two hour drive and by 11.30 we were there.

The car park was amazing with opera music piping out. First stop was the Arena - we had to do the tourist thing... When in Italy...

They were in the middle of changing productions so the stage was very interesting. We stepped up to the top of the cheap seats - unreserved stone seats to you - for a spectacular view of the surrounding area.

We had looked into going to a production but the coach doesn't return until 4 in the morning. So will need to leave that for another time...

Next up was Juliet's balcony - well in for a penny... It did vet us discussing iif there was an actual Juliet, but more of that later... It was a right royal scrum at the balcony but well worth the effort.

After all that excitement it was time for lunch and we found a restaurant just off the main square to sit down and seek refuge in the shade. The temperature was in the mid 40's today and that takes it toll.

So following the Juliet theme we went in search of her tomb - still not having answered the key question - was it an actual person. If not it is a great piece of marketing as I paid for 5 people to view the tomb of a non-existent person.

I will Google it later but the highlight when visiting the tomb was Miss H  asking 'where is she then?' as the tomb was empty...

Next up was a lot of shopping before heading back to the car. Ali then suggested some retail therapy on the way home at an Outlet Mall. Never ones to turn down shopping the girls did some damage to their purses.

We finally returned to the camp site at about 8 after a fab day visiting places we would never of had a chance of visiting ourselves. It was well worth the journey and would be happy to go back there and stay.

So we are all feeling tired and sun beaten and sitting here having pizzas and pasta whilst I type this. Thanks Ali for a fab day.

It's hard to believe that tomorrow we have been here a week but tempus fugit (if my memory of Latin hasn't let me down - quite apt given where we are)

We know our plans for tomorrow but you know the rules - you will need to pop back and if I have time I will do some research into Romeo and Juliet.

Just A Quiet Day

So today is Thursday and we have, as the post suggests had a very quiet day.

It was another scorcher - I know I'm repeating myself but we're not complaining. It's lovely to wake up to blue sky and brilliant sunshine and more importantly no work.

Haven't taken many photos today so thought I would post another one from yesterday at Caorle for your viewing pleasure...

There is a craft market at the camp site so we are going to have a look before finding somewhere to eat.

It seems very strange having been in the UK that everyone smokes - indoors and outdoors - in restaurants - it seems like the ban is universally ignored. I had thought that it applied in the EU but could be wrong?

Another thing I had forgotten is that the food comes out separately so there can be quite a delay between you all getting your meals.

Tomorrow we are off on a real adventure courtesy of Ali - but you will need to come back tomorrow and check. Before you all say - we've guessed already - it's not Venice so there...

So we decided to give the restaurant we visited on our first night another chance but suffice to say we won't be going back. To say the service was poor would be an understatement...

Everyday Is A Shopping Day

So today we decided to get the bus to Caorle. It's really easy as the bus goes from outside the camp and drops you off at the bus station. From there we headed to the shops with Miss B leading the way.

Purchases were made and Mrs J got a present - a fine pair of sandals - with a heel - shock. One way to try and catch up with Miss B in height I suppose... I've added a photo of them as proof that Mrs J will get some Birthday presents.

We went to the beach for a stroll along the promenade and stopped for a drink at a delightful cafe - The Blue Kiosk bar. The view from there was amazing and the beach has multiple platforms out at sea - not sure if these are exclusive to the hotels or not. Will need to find out. If it is public we may need to pay them a visit.

Spent a few hours looking in the shops and venturing down side streets exploring but then Caorle shut. At 12.30 the shops shut and remain closed until 5pm. Only a few hardy individuals remain open to mop up any passing trade.

After the BBQ incident of last night we were all hungry and found a nice restaurant down a side street for lunch. It is obviously a good sign if there are locals eating there and this was no disappointment. In my continuing pursuit of the perfect Lasagne, today's offering was superb and ranks as my favorite so far on this year's trip.

Before catching the bus back we checked out the Aquapark where the girls want to spend an afternoon. That will give me a chance to find a nice bar and pass away a few hours. Better still could stay at the campsite - will have to wait and see.

The bus back was uneventful and the girls went to the pool until closing time at 6. After showers to freshen up we are deciding where to go and eat tonight.

I Want To Ride My Bicycle

So after a night of thunder and lightning accompanying a torrential downpour we stepped back out into glorious sunshine and not a cloud in the sky.

Anyway back to last night. We had eaten and were going for a bit of a stroll.  The girls were just about to go on the go karts when the wind picked up and we sensed it was about to pour - the thundrous black clouds were a bit of a clue.

So the girls decided to hire a bike for half an hour - the four seater variety where supposedly everyone pedals. Having experienced being a passenger in a go kart in Florida last year I decided to go food shopping. I sensed this wasn't going to be a relaxing cycle in the sun and a rather frazzled Mrs J returned with Miss B and Miss H moaning about back seat drivers...

The girls saw a lot more of the park and found a few more places to eat and found the adventure golf. Will there be a 2013.challenge? You will need to wait and see.

So it's coming up to 12 and we are sat on the decking just enjoying the sun and chillaxing - I'm not a fan of the word but it does sum things up well.

I think it will be off to the pool shortly to cool down. And so it was... Plenty of dunking and then back for lunch.

You know when you are settling in when you embrace the customs. One that we are all taking advantage of is the siesta. Two hours of silence and a chance to refresh your batteries. Most enjoyable...

Then it was off to the beach for a bob - nothing but blue sky as far as the eye could see. It's not a very wide beach - as in the distance to the sea but is enough for us. We're not great beach lovers and much prefer the sea.

So tea was a BBQ - not a great success but not for lack of trying. It waited until we had given up and then blasted into life. Managed to cook some sausages and burgers but couldn't tell you what they were though. Tasted fab anyway.

Just walking round the village this evening. The girls have found a rollercoaster they are 'small' enough to ride and now all 3 of them have gone for a land train ride so thought I would catch up with my blogging.

That will leave time for a nightcap before returning home to apply the aftersun.

So The Weathermen Were Wrong

So today we decided to venture into Porto S. Margherita on the bus. There is a bus stop just outside the camp entrance saving us a walk to the road. PSM is a small village with a marina. It's a very quiet seaside town with only a few shops. We then decided to walk back along the beach promenade - we were told it was only about 3km but that was surely not correct - it took us 45 minutes to walk and you know I walk at a fair pace.

We decided to eat at the beach cafe for lunch - it's fair to say that the staff work extremely hard but are not the friendliest bunch in the world. Sometimes you get the impression you are invisible. I'm sure though if you tried to leave without paying they would spring into action.

So must update you on the WiFi situation - you can pay for it or you can obtain a password for free access if you purchase food or drink. The WiFi is only available when the restaurant is open but once you have the code... And given that they hand out a printed piece of paper it's fair to say that this doesn't change very often, hence the large number of staff and holiday makers taking advantage of this free service.

We then decided to head back home - it was then that we started to notice drops of water... This certainly wasn't forecast in the weather bulletin I posted on here before we left. It got so blowy we needed to retreat indoors. Then came the rain and it is still raining while I write this. The pools stay open until 6 but given the thunder and occasional lightning I'm sure they have closed the pools anyway. Not sure whether the girls will get to have a swim today.

So Miss B has headed off in the rain to use the free WiFi - you can't keep a good business woman down :)

So it's a quarter to six and the sun is shining again. Just to give you an idea how windy it was - there was significant tree damage and the camp staff have been clearing debris and using chainsaws to remove broken branches. There was a lot of damage but by the time we went outside again it was all cleared up.

Birthday Girl

So we woke up for our first day in Italy and there was another cause for celebration - it was Mrs J's birthday. We had brought all the cards that had arrived before we left, with us and decided to treat Mrs J to a rendition of happy birthday, on the hour, regardless of where we were...

I have to apologize in advance for the lack of photos of Mrs J on her birthday - the pictures are on Miss B's camera and the ones on her iPod we can't seem to transfer despite both devices having Bluetooth and being paired. Oh well...

We will look out for presents while we are away. I'm sure this will cost me more doing it this way but nevermind...

It was an absolute scorcher today -  very hot - would say easily about 40 degrees. We had a quiet day exploring the campsite and getting our bearings. After lunch we headed for the pools for some kiddie dunking. The water was very warm - ideal for whiling away the hours. Then it was off to the beach with the wabobas - you will need to Google this if you don't know what they are... Suffice to say these are one of my best purchases - not sure how we came across these but really glad we did.

It's not often that I get to say this but the sea was warmer than the pool, and the pool was warm... The sand was so hot I needed to put on my shoes to walk to the water.

For tea we decided to try the Golf Clubhouse restaurant - there is an eighteen hole course next to the site. So we all got dressed up and went out for a pizza. I'm not going to keep count...

Then it was back home for a good night sleep...

So Here We Are

So it's been a really long day. We were up at three this morning and on the road by quarter to four. The drive to Gatwick was really quiet - not really surprising at that time of the morning. It was the first time that the four of us have been in the new car and with all the luggage we were well loaded.

After the transfer to the airport and a quick tour of the duty free shops it was time to go to the departure gate. Suffice to say the credit card was required...

The flight left a little late due to the volume of aircraft wanting to leave. There was a fair amount of turbulence on the flight and my ears were really uncomfortable. For those of you who don't know, I currently have a problem with my synases and my hearing is shot. So the flight was a kill or cure moment. Suffice to say I'm still here but I wouldn't say it was pleasant...

From Venice we caught the bus to Caorle where Ali was on hand to meet us. What a star!!! Ali took us to the campsite and settled us in, before taking us to a supermarket off site. This is much cheaper than the Spar onsite and has allowed us to get stocked up on essentials for the next few days.

This is probably the first time we have arrived on camp so early and thanks to Ali our accommodation was ready to move straight into. I probably should explain about Ali. She is an assistant area manager for Eurocamp who Jo knows from M&S. Small world and such a lovely person.

The girls decided to go for a dip whilst I and Mrs J went for a quick explore. Well that and a sit down with a cold glass of wine. It was from here that we went outside and took the picture for today's blog.

No editing required...

If You Keep Your Eyes Peeled...

Only joking... When we went on holiday a few years ago, the campsite had a webcam and we arranged to be in front of it on a certain day and time so that our families back home could see us.

This worked really well so wifi permitting we will let you know where and when we will attempt this again.

Here's the all important link that you will need

http://www.yr.no/place/Italy/Veneto/Centro_Vacanze_Pra'_delle_Torri/

The webcams are at the bottom of the page. Obviously the success of this will depend on how often the webcam updates so no promises...

If we find time to do this we will let you know in a post during our holiday (hence the earlier remark about wifi).

It's The Final Countdown...

So here we are with 1 day to go. It's hard to imagine that this time tomorrow we will be in Italy.

As we speak I am dialled in to work still trying to finish things off, despite having technically finished yesterday.

Check in has opened and I have completed that and printed off the boarding passes.

Still no sign of any packing... Not sure if I should be concerned or whether we are going for a truly laid back approach for this year after the 'full on' rush of Florida last year...

Talking of being relaxed or is that last minute.com, Miss B and I are off to get some Euros in a little while.

In terms of the weather, here's the latest... As you can see the key trend is SUN... Yay...
